I went for a geometric design, I went for a colour palette that represented the mission, from the black, white and greys used in the Saturn V rocket to the NASA blue and orange used in the astronauts suits. I wanted to pay tribute to the mission itself APOLLO 11 and the 50 years since the landing 1969-2019. Starting with a 3x3 rectangle grid, then creating each letter and number using geometric shapes.
With space left over to show the 3 astronauts and the infamous quote. I wanted a way to show the journey they took, from leaving the earth, orbiting and landing on the moon then finally returning home. I used lines and concentric circles to represent the movement and small shapes to represent the Saturn V rocket and lunar module. The final step was to print it using gold foil on the journey lines to bring an extra level of detail and to honour their achievement.

Two prints: First to mark the mission APOLLO 11, with the names of the 3 astronauts who did what seemed the impossible. Second 1969-2019, to honour the 50 years since that historic event with the launch/landing dates and that infamous quote!

Representing the darkness of space and the bright white allure of the moon, I created two versions of the print. With either a dark or a light base, that allows different aspects of the design to stand out.
